Tuesday's Weather Outlook

Showers and storms will bubble along the East Coast and Gulf Coast as the rest of the country is drier.

A weak disturbance aloft will continue to move slowly eastward out of the Great Lakes towards the Northeast. Scattered showers and storm chances will be high in the Northeast. Rain totals will range from one-quarter inch to 1.5 inches.

Spotty storms east of the Appalachian Mountains in the piedmonts of Virginia and the Carolinas can be expected. Damaging winds and hail are the main threats with this activity.

The Gulf Coast and Southeast states will continue their run of daily scattered storms. Flash flooding and damaging winds are what to expect. Near the coast is where the better chance for storms will be. Any storms that form in western Texas will have higher odds for large hail compared to the Southeast.

Afternoon and evening showers and storms can be expected in the taller terrain of the Rocky Mountain states. States like Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, and Utah may see some of these showers in valley locations. The best overlap of storm ingredients will be in central to eastern Oregon, and rainfall totals would be the greatest there.

In the northern Plains, there may be a few showers and storms in eastern Wyoming and western South Dakota. Elsewhere in the northern and central Plains, the weather will be dry.

The Great Lakes and Midwest will remain dry with cooler temperatures as a disturbance exits farther east.

The Desert Southwest and West Coast will be dry with hot temperatures once again.

On top of the tallest peaks in the Rocky Mountains, highs in the 50s will be found. Sixties will be in place across the rain-soaked Northeast, especially in Maine. Highs in the 70s will be found along the Appalachian Spine, Ohio Valley, and Great Lakes. Eighties will be found in the southern Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Gulf Coast, Mid-South, Central Plains, Northern Plains, and lower elevation Rockies. Highs in 90s and 100s will be found in the Desert Southwest, southern Texas, and Florida.
