Tonight's Severe Weather Outlook

Severe thunderstorms continue to pummel the High Plains this evening, thanks to a potent weather disturbance.

As unseasonably warm and humid conditions settle over the northern High Plains, the approaching disturbance is producing just enough of a trigger to create powerful thunderstorms from Montana to western Texas.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches stretch from central Montana to northwestern Kansas, including Miles City, Mont. Sheridan, Wyo., Sidney, Neb., Greeley, Colo. and Goodland, Kan.

The primary threat this evening is large hail to the size of baseballs, as well as wind gusts of 70 to 75 mph.

As the weekend progresses, a few strong to severe thunderstorms will persist across the northern High Plains where additional Slight Risks have been issued.

Make sure to know the difference between a watch and a warning should they become issued. A “watch” means that conditions are favorable for severe weather to occur and to be on alert for any rapidly changing conditions. A “warning” means that severe weather is imminent, and you should act fast to remain safe.

The best way to remain safe is to stay prepared and informed about your local weather. Have a severe weather kit packed with a battery-operated radio, water, and non-perishable food items should you be without power for long periods of time. Also, check the WeatherBug app frequently for any updates on today's severe weather. Remember, "When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!"
